Courses Offered

The College admits students for the following courses of the University of Mumbai:

Degrees

LL.B. Degree (General) (Two Year Course)

LL.B. Degree (Three Year Course)

 

LL.B.

The course of the LL.B. (General) is of two years duration and that of the LL.B. Degree is of three years duration. The first two years of LL.B. Degree course are identical with those of LL.B. (General) course. The holder of only LL.B. (General) is not entitled to enroll as an Advocate with the Bar Council.

 

Admission Information

Admission is purely on the basis of a State Common Entrance Test MAH-Law CET (3 Years). The details of MAH-LAW CET (3 years) is available on htt://www.dhepune.gov.in. and http://www.mahacet.org.

A transparent admission procedure is followed strictly based on standard norms. Any modification in admission guidelines will be notified on the college notice board at the time of admission. Neither the management nor the college accepts any donation or capitation fee for admission to any course offered by the college. The public is cautioned not to fall a prey to any misleading information regarding admission in the college vis-a-vis donations.

Three Year Degree Law Course

Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission

“Bar Council of India, may from time to time, stipulate the minimum percentage of marks for admission. Not below 45% of the total marks in case of General Category applicants and 40% of the total marks in case of SC and ST applicants, to be obtained for the qualifying examination, degree course in any discipline for three years LL.B. course, for the purpose of applying for and getting admitted into a Law Degree Program of any recognized University in either of the streams.

Provided that such minimum qualifying marks shall not automatically entitle a person to get admission into an institution but only shall entitle the person concerned to fulfill other institutional criteria notified by the institution concerned or by the government concerned from time to time to apply for admission.”

Educational Qualification for Maharashtra State Candidates

The candidate should be a Graduate and or Post Graduate in any faculty/discipline or knowledge of any University in Maharashtra established by an act of Parliament or by the State Legislature or an equivalent National Institution recognized as a Deemed to be University or Foreign University recognized as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an Authority competent to declare equivalence, with minimum 45% Marks in aggregate for Open Category candidates ( i.e. 45% Marks for all the parts of the Degree Examination taken together), and 40% Marks in aggregate in degree examination in all parts of the Degree Examination for candidates belonging to SC and ST Category belonging to State of Maharashtra only. The Candidate who has passed the 3 year undergraduate degree and or 2/3 Yrs. Post Graduate Degree from university after prosecuting the studies in the educational pattern of 10+2+3 and/or 10+2+3+2/3 Yrs. with regular studies at Secondary (SSC) and Higher Secondary (HSC) schooling.

 

The Candidates who have completed 10 (SSC) +2 (HSC) Education following Regular Mode are also eligible for admission to LL.B 3 Yrs. CET 2017 provided they have completed their Graduation and or Post Graduation through Regular Mode/Open or Distance Mode.

 

Outside Maharashtra University Graduates/Post Graduates

Candidates from Out- side Maharashtra Universities will be considered as Open Category candidates irrespective of their Caste/Category and criteria applicable to Open Category candidates will be applicable to them.

Candidates who are appearing for the qualifying examination in the academic year 2016- 2017 are also eligible to apply for MAH-LL.B-3 –CET-2017 / Entrance Examination. Such candidates will become eligible for admission only if they produce marks Memo/ Degree Certificate of the Qualifying Examination while filling in the Form for CAP only if they score minimum required percentage of Aggregate marks in the Qualifying Examination.

Aggregate marks means the Grand Total of marks obtained by the candidate at the Certificate/Diploma /Degree in all Semesters/ Years on which the Class/Grade is awarded by the Board/ University.

In case the candidates are awarded Grade/s,/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of Grade/s, CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the formula/procedure certified by the Board University/ Institution from where the candidate has obtained the Bachelor’s Degree The candidate will have to bring the necessary proof to that effect from the University/ Institution.

If the Grades of all Semesters/Years are taken into considered for awarding Grade in Certificate/ Diploma/Degree, the same is to be considered and noted by the candidate while filling in the form. It will be obligatory on the part of the candidate to bring grade to percentage certificate from the University/Board/ College/Institute.

The percentage of Marks shall be calculated by rounding off to two places after decimal.

The candidate belonging to SC/ST, DT/VJ, NT (A), NT (B), NT(C), NT (D), OBC and SBC categories having Caste Certificate from the State of Maharashtra only should produce “Caste Certificate” issued by the Competent Authority and the candidates belonging to ST category should submit “Tribe Validity Certificate” issued by the Scrutiny Committee of Tribal Department along with Caste certificate. Candidates belonging to DT/VJ, NT (A), NT (B), NT(C), NT (D), OBC and SBC should submit ‘Valid Non Creamy Layer Certificate’ as applicable at the time of verification of Documents/Admission. Then only these category candidates will be eligible for CET Examination Fee Concession and admission on the reserved seat in the CAP process. Candidates belonging to other than Maharashtra State Universities will be treated as Open Category Candidate.

Centralised Admission Process (CAP)

(1) The Unaided Private Professional Educational Institution shall admit candidates through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) as referred in sub-section (3) of section 3 of the Act. The stages of CAP shall be as stated below: -

(a) Display or publishing of Information Brochure by the Competent Authority.

(b) Filling Online Application Form by Candidate for participation in the Centralised Admission Process.

(c) Confirmation of Online Application Form and Document Verification at Facilitation Centre by the Candidate in person.

(d) Display or Publishing of provisional merit lists, submission of grievances, if any, and display or publishing of final Merit Lists.

(e) Display of available Category wise Seats (Seat Matrix) for CAP Rounds I, II and III.

(f) Filling up and confirmation of Online Option Form having preferences of a Institutions before CAP Round I. Candidates may fill in choice of Institutes in decreasing order of their preference as specified by Competent Authority. The option form once confirmed shall be considered for allotment in CAP Rounds I, II and III.

(g) Display of Provisional Allotment of CAP Rounds I, II and III indicating allotted institute.

(h) Reporting and accepting offered seat will be as per the allotment of the CAP Round I, II and III, by the Candidate at Reporting Centre.

 

(2) During the CAP, before accepting the allotted seat a candidate can opt to ‘Freeze’ or ‘Float’ the choice of academic program for subsequent round (S), if any, of seat allocation as provided below:

(a) Freeze: Candidates accept the offered seat and if they do not want to participate in any further rounds of seat allocation, such Candidates will not be considered in subsequent rounds of admission;

(b) Float: Candidates accept the offered seat and indicate that, if admission to an academic program in any Institution of higher preference is offered, they will accept it. Else, they will continue with the currently accepted academic programme. Such Candidates will be considered in subsequent round of admission.

(c) for candidates who choose the Float option, and secures a seat of this choice of higher preference, then it would automatically result in the forfeiture of the seat accepted by the candidates in the earlier round;

(d) Floating options will not be available to a Candidate who is admitted to his First Choice.[Government of Maharashtra Gazette No.MAHBIL/2009/37831 dated 2nd April, 2016]

 

Minority Students (Gujarati Linguistic Minority)

The Minority seats shall be alloted to the Candidates of the State belonging to the Minority Community to which the institution belongs by virtue of merit or in Open Category as per their Inter-Se-Merit if the seat reserved for them are not available at their merit. [Government of Maharashtra Gazzette No. MAHBIL/2009/37831 dated 11th March, 2016.]  

Prohibition to register for two regular courses of study

No student shall be allowed to simultaneously  register for a law degree  program  with any other graduate or post-graduate or certificate  course  run  by the  same  or any other  University or an Institute for academic  or professional  learning; excepting in the integrated programme of the same institute.

Provided that, any short period, part time certificate course in language, computer science or computer application of an Institute or any course run by a Centre for Distance Learning of a University, however, shall be excepted. Ref: (Rule 6, Rules of Legal Education 2008, Bar Council of India)

Age of admission

As per Notification by State CET Cell vide their letter No. CET-CELL/LLB-3/LLB-5-2016/AGE-RELAXATION/2016/533 dated 17th October, 2016, Admissions to the candidates who do not fulfil the age criteria prescribed by the Bar Council of India will be subject to outcome of Writ Petition No. WP(S) 27289/2016 and other similar petitions pending in Hon. High Court.

All admissions are subject to the approval of the University of Mumbai.

A student from  any  another  University seeking  admission  to  any  of  the  courses  will be considered  for provisional admission at his/her own risk only on production  of a ‘Provisional Certificate of Eligibility’ from the University of Mumbai on payment of requisite fees. Moreover, the student must  submit  to  the  Registrar  of  the  University of  Mumbai,  through the  college,  the necessary certificates before the end of the term; otherwise, the admission will be treated as invalid. For further details in this behalf reference should be made to the Registrar, University of Mumbai.

 

A student migrating from any other constituent college of the University shall produce a ‘Transfer Certificate’ to be obtained from the college last attended. The Transfer Certificate application form should be obtained from the college at the time of admission and should be submitted to the college last attended. It will be the sole responsibility of the student to obtain ‘Transfer Certificate’ from the previous college and submit it to the College office within the stipulated period.

 

Pre- Admission Online Registration

Students must fill-up pre-admission online registration (Eligibility/ Enrolment) form which is available on ‘University of Mumbai’s Digital University Portal http://mum.net.in’ and submit hard copy of the same at the time of admission along with other necessary documents.

 

Merit List

Candidates, whose names appear in the Merit List, will have to appear before the Principal for a personal interview. After the interview, the candidate, if admitted, will have to pay the prescribed fees by Demand Draft in favor of “Jitendra Chauhan College of Law”.

Eligibility Cases

In case of students from Universities in the State of Maharashtra, the fee would be Rs.200/- only and for out of Maharashtra State, a fee of Rs.300/- and for the foreign Nationals Rs.730/-. On production of a Provisional Statement of Eligibility, a student may seek Provisional Admission to this University, at his own risk and on condition that he submits to the Registrar's office through the Principal of his Institution/College, the necessary certificates in original together with an attested photocopy of each for confirmation of his eligibility before the end of the academic term in which the student is provisionally admitted to the University. No student from another University shall be admitted to any Institution maintained by or affiliated to the University except on production of a provisional statement of eligibility issued by the Registrar. In this connection, attention is invited to the Resolution passed by the Management Council at its meeting held on 16th October, 2007.

Gujarati Linguistic Minority
  • Original and Photostat copies of mark sheets of graduation/ post-graduation of all the years (all attempts) passing certificate, degree certificate, X and XII Std.  marks sheet/ passing certificate from any Board in the State of Maharashtra.
  • Three latest passport size photographs.

  • Original & attested Photostat copies of Minority Certificate.
  • Photostat copy of Marriage Certificate or Copy of Government Gazette (if name change / differ).
Reserved Category
  • Original and Photostat copies of marksheet of graduation/ post-graduation all years (all attempts), passing certificate/ degree certificate, X and XII Std mark sheet/ passing certificate.
  • Attested photo stat copy o caste certificate.
  • Three latest passport size photographs.
  • Printout of online Anti-ragging undertaking of students & parents on www.antiragging.in & www.amanmovement.org
  • Photostat copy of Marriage Certificate or Copy of Government Gazette (if name change / differ).

     

SC/ST Students

  • In addition to the documents referred in above column.
  • 1. Attested Photostat copy of Caste certificate.
  • 2. Attested Photostat copy of father’s Income certificate from Tahsildar or Form 16.
  • 3. Attested Photostat copy of Ration Card (Front & Back side).
  • 4. Gap certificate (if Applicable).

 

OBC, VJ/NT and SBC Students

  • In addition to the documents referred in above two columns.
  • Attested Photostat copy of non-creamy layer certificate and Father’s Income Certificate from Tahsildar or Form 16.
Other than Mumbai University
  • Original and Photostat copies of graduation, post-graduation all years (all attempts) mark sheet and passing certificate/ degree certificates, Migration certificate, X & XII Std. mark sheet/ passing certificate.
  • Three latest passport size photographs.

    Note: If it  is  subsequently found that  any  of  the  statements made  by  the  candidate in  the admission form are incorrect the admission will be cancelled and there will be no refund of fees.

    All admissions are subject to the approval of the University of Mumbai. The right of admission is reserved by the Principal and the Management.

The above fees structure is subject to revision by Government of Maharashtra Fees Regulatory Authority.

Refund of fees after cancellation of admission

(a) The Candidate shall apply online for cancellation and submit signed copy of system generated application for cancellation of admission to the institution.

(b)  After receiving admission cancellation request from the Candidate, the institution shall cancel the admission immediately and generate online acknowledgement of cancellation of admission through institution login and issue a signed copy to the Candidate.

(c) The refund of fees before cut-off date of admission shall made within two days i.e. total fee minus the processing charges of Rs.1000, or refund rule shall be as per the guidelines of the appropriate authorities or the State Government, as the case may be.

(d) If the admission is cancelled after the cut-off date of admission declared by the Competent Authority, there shall be no refund except the Security Deposit and Caution Money Deposit.

NOTE: The students are advised to preserve their fee receipt carefully.

Refund of deposits/admission cancellation fees will be made only by a cheque on submission of the original fee receipt. However, duplicate fee receipt may be issued on payment of Rs. 50/- with the special permission of the Principal.

Deserving students can apply through the appropriate channel, for scholarships and free ships. Prescribed forms for Free-ship for wards of Ex-servicemen, Freedom Fighters, Secondary School Teachers, and Primary School Teachers are available in the college office.  SC, ST, VJ / NT, OBC and SBC category students can apply for scholarship/ free-ship online on website – www.mahaeschol.maharashtra.gov.in and submit the printout to the college office along with relevant documents.
